Latisse / November 2009

Over the past few weeks, our office has had many inquires about LATISSE® solution. LATISSE® is the first and only FDA-approved prescription treatment for hypotrichosis used to grow eyelashes, making them longer, thicker and darker. By applying the topical solution once daily to the base of the eyelashes, you will see lash growth as soon as 8 weeks and full growth by 12 to 16 weeks. When making an appointment, be sure to tell our receptionist that you want to find out more about LATISSE®.

Definitions.

Face Procedure Definitions:

Rhytidectomy (facelift) —A surgical procedure that is done to eliminate the sagging, drooping, and wrinkled skin of the face and neck.

Browlift — A surgical procedure in which the skin of the forehead and eyebrows is tightened, to eliminate sagging eyebrows or to minimize frown lines in the forehead area.

Botox — A substance derived from botulinum toxin that works by preventing nerve impulses from reaching the muscle, causing the muscle to relax. Botox is administered through injections and minimizes fine wrinkles, small contour irregularities, shallow scars, depressions, and pigmentation.

Collagen — A substance derived from either Bovine or Human dermis that is injected into creases to act as a filler material.

Otoplasty (ears) —A surgical procedure done to correct misshaped or protruding ears.

Chemical Peel —A process in which a chemical solution is applied to the skin to remove dead skin cells and stimulate the growth of new skin cells. This process is also refered to as chemexfoliation.

Facial Implants — Facial implants are used to improve and enhance a variety of facial structure. These implants are used to proportion facial features and balance the patient's overall appearance. Placing of facial implants can be done in the chin, jaw, or cheeks.

Blepharoplasty (eyelids) —A cosmetic surgical procedure that reduces bagginess from lower eyelids and raises drooping upper eyelids. The procedure involves the removal of excess skin, muscle and underlying fatty tissue.

Rhinoplasty (nose) —A cosmetic procedure used to enhance or change the appearance of the nose. Rhinoplasty is commonly referred to as a nose job.

Necklift —A Necklift elevates the skin and soft tissues of the neck, and returns them close to their original location, thus restoring a "rested" and more youthful appearance.

Lip augmentation —A procedure done to improve deflated, drooping or sagging lips. Lip augmentation can correct symmetry as well as reducing fine lines and wrinkles around the lips. This is often done through injections or implants.

Neck liposuction —Neck liposuction can help remove excess fat and skin, and can also help tighten sagging skin. Neck liposuction reduces fullness in the neck and can correct sagging tissues due to heredity or aging. Many patients will choose to combine their neck liposuction with additional procedures such as chin implants, face lifts, and brow/eyelid lift. Neck liposuctions involving multiple procedures can result in more noticeable improvements and have longer lasting effects.
