Facial Implants

Facial implants are small anatomically shaped prosthetics that Dr. Dry can use to augment specific areas of your face. Usually applied to the cheekbones or the chin, a facial implant can bring balance and harmony to your facial features.

What are Facial Implants?

Alloplastic facial implants come in a variety of shapes and sizes, giving your plastic surgeon the option to choose the right implant to meet your aesthetic goals. They are often made with materials like silicone rubber (silastic), Goretex, Teflon, acrylic and more.

Are Facial Implants right for you?

Facial implants are typically used during chin augmentation (alloplastic mentoplasty) or cheek augmentation. If you believe your chin or cheeks are lacking projection, a facial implant procedure with Dr. Dry may be the right solution.

Your plastic surgeon may recommend a facial implant if you exhibit a condition such as:

  • Small chin (microgenia)
  • Sunken cheeks
  • Lack of cheekbone structure

Facial implant surgery is sometimes combined with procedures such as facelift and eyelid surgery.

What Happens During Facial Implant Surgery?

These procedures can sometimes be completed in less than one hour. Depending on where your implant is being placed (the cheek, chin, jaw), the surgeon makes a small incision to create a small pocket for the implant. The implant is then inserted and secured in place before the incision is closed.

Facial Implant Alternatives

In some cases, Dr. Dry may recommend an alternative procedure to achieve similar goals. Injectable fillers or facial fat grafting may be appropriate procedures to consider. Ask Dr. Dry about alternatives during your consultation.

How Will I Feel After Facial Implant Surgery?

The recovery will vary depending on the details of your surgery and whether any concurrent procedures have been done. After chin augmentation (with an oral incision), you will be instructed to eat a soft diet and practice good oral hygiene, using caution with your toothbrush and gently irrigating with antiseptic mouthwash. The results are immediately visible, but may be hidden due to swelling.

When recovery is complete, you should exhibit a more balanced facial appearance. The area of your facial implant should have a more proportional size in relation to your other facial features.
