Face Lift
Facelift plastic surgery reduces visible, age-related imperfections in the neck and lower face. After a facelift, patients often say they look about ten years younger. Many also report improved self-esteem and improved quality of life.
Dr. Gavin Dry performs facelift surgery here in Kirkland, and frequently meets with patients from Bellevue, Eastside and the greater Seattle area.
Is a Facelift Right for You?
“To look younger” is the most common reason patients say they want a facelift. By reducing the appearance of prominent wrinkles, a facelift can achieve that goal. If you exhibit the following conditions, a facelift may be right for you:
- Sagging jowls
- Loose skin
- Moderate to severe wrinkles
- Sagging neck tissue
The majority of facelift patients are in the range of 40 to 60 years old. Ideally, they are healthy, non-smokers who have realistic expectations about the outcome.
What Happens During a Facelift?
During this 2 – 3 hour operation, Dr. Dry makes incisions that follow the hairline around the temples and behind the earlobe. The underlying tissues are tightened, fat is removed if necessary and the skin is re-draped to exhibit a smoother appearance.
Anesthesia for Facelift Surgery
A facelift can be performed under local or general anesthesia. Under local anesthesia, you would be awake but insensitive to pain during the procedure. Under a general anesthetic, you would sleep through the surgery. When it comes to anesthesia, your board certified plastic surgeon will recommend the best option. Ask the doctor for details about anesthesia during your consultation.
How Will I Look and Feel After a Facelift?
When surgery is done, you’ll be wrapped in a loose bandage that is designed to minimize swelling. The doctor will advise you to get plenty of rest and keep your head elevated. Expect some numbness, puffiness and bruising during the initial recovery period. Sutures can be removed after about one week. Ask Dr. Dry for advice on applying makeup to mask the signs of surgery. Typical recovery time for a facelift is 2 – 3 weeks.
