Losing a significant amount of weight is cause for celebration, for both your confidence and your overall wellbeing. With dramatic weight loss, however, there is one last hurdle to overcome: the appearance of loose skin. Excessive skin after weight loss can be uncomfortable, and stand in the way of enjoying the excellent progress you’ve made, but cosmetic surgery can help you accomplish the following:

Firmer Skin

With weight gain, skin can stretch and become lax. As you lose weight, some skin elasticity returns. For patients who’ve lost remarkable amounts of weight in a short window of time, there may be some stubborn loose skin that does not snap back into place. Post-weight loss surgery helps you achieve firmer skin by removing deposits of loose skin from problem areas.

Improved Contouring

The shape of your newly slimmed body can be hidden under excess skin. But cosmetic surgery can help you discover a more visibly contoured shape by removing extra skin and creating the silhouette you want for your new figure.

Shapelier Arms, Stomach, Thighs

Areas where loose skin can be most visible and uncomfortable after dramatic weight loss is typically the neck, arms, stomach, and thighs. After-weight loss surgery makes these areas appear more toned and firm, so your weight loss results are more prominent, and extra skin doesn’t make you feel uncomfortable in certain clothing.

Making the Choice to Remove Excess Skin after Weight Loss

Not everyone will need body contouring treatment after having shed pounds. The removal of loose skin is typically recommended for patients who had prior weight loss surgery and have drastically lowered their weight over a short amount of time, thereby producing loose skin.  If you’ve experienced loose, stubborn skin following significant weight loss, our Kirkland and Bellevue cosmetic plastic surgeon can help. Contact Dr. Dry to learn more about what body contouring surgery can help you achieve.

Breast augmentation is one of the most popular cosmetic surgical procedures for women. There are many reasons that motivate women to get breast implants; the results not only buoy self-confidence, but also strengthen a positive body image.
For some women though, the question remains, should I get breast implants? To explore the answer, it’s important to go over the following:

Who is a Good Candidate for Treatment?

Women who desire the cosmetic procedure for personal reasons, like dissatisfaction with the appearance of breasts after pregnancy, weight loss, or aging are good candidates for the procedure. From a medical standpoint, patients who are qualified for the procedure must have fully developed breasts, have no active infections in the body (including cancer), must not be pregnant or breastfeeding, and have realistic expectations for the outcome of the procedure.

There are situations that must be discussed with the plastic surgeon before a decision can be made as to whether a person is a good candidate. Smoking, taking certain medications, and drinking alcohol could affect a person’s ability to heal and may not make them ideal candidates for breast augmentation. Anyone with tendencies toward irregular bleeding or those who have had prior breast surgeries must disclose this information to their plastic surgeon.

Women who are in good general health, who want to enhance their appearance with a more youthful figure, restore balance or symmetry to their bodies, or regain self-esteem by having their clothes fit their proportions better are ideal candidates for breast augmentation.

What Can Implants Do?

Breast implants are intended to increase the size of breasts. Some women have the procedure done because their bodies are out of proportion and they would feel more balanced with larger breasts. Other women seek the procedure because one of their breasts is noticeably smaller than the other. Breast augmentation is also performed as reconstructive surgery for women who have previously had a mastectomy.

The questions of “should” when considering breast augmentation is a personal choice that revolves around your goals, preferences, and motivations. Patients seeking breast augmentation to correct a mismatch in size between breasts or those patients who are fully developed, but wish to have a more balanced body shape tend to feel most satisfied with breast enlargement. Patients should note, however, that seeking cosmetic plastic surgery for other, emotionally-charged reasons may not help you feel satisfied after treatment.

Hundreds of thousands of men are now opting for cosmetic surgical procedures to help them look refreshed and rejuvenated. According to the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, the number of cosmetic procedures for men has more than doubled from 2007 to 2012.

Many of Dr. Gavin Dry’s patients are men, and they visit him for the same reasons as any other cosmetic surgery patients: They want to look and feel their best. Here are five of the most popular cosmetic surgeries for men:

1. Liposuction – Men aren’t any more excited about love handles than anyone else. Liposuction is an effective way to not only remove stubborn weight, but to remove fat cells and make re-gaining the weight in a problem area less of a threat.

2. Tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) – Tummy tucks are a great solution for removing excess skin, making your midsection appear more toned, especially after significant weight loss.

3. Facelift (rhytidectomy) – Still one of the most reliable ways to turn back time, many men – especially those whose careers rely heavily on face time with clients – favor this procedure.

4. Eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) – This surgery rejuvenates puffy, sagging upper and lower eyelids, giving the face a subtle but very noticeable youthfulness.

5. Breast reduction (gynecomastia) – Men who choose this procedure typically have over-developed breast tissue and wish to diminish its appearance for improved self-image.

In addition to these, procedures like cheek implants (malar augmentation), and chin augmentation (mentoplasty) are some of the up-and-coming procedures with growing popularity among men.

With the advancements in cosmetic surgery over the last several years, men have more options than ever before to enhance their appearance and feel their absolute best. If you feel ready to make a change in your personal appearance and boost your confidence in the process, call Dr. Dry at his Kirkland office today.

In the world of cosmetic surgery, there are plenty of treatments to choose from that will help you get care for loose skin, fat deposits, lines and wrinkles, sagging skin, and other concerns. It’s important to know which treatment does what, and how you can combine procedures to help you get exactly what you need.

When it comes to targeting problem areas, many patients want a flatter midsection. Here’s what you should know about cosmetic plastic surgery if your cosmetic surgery goal is a leaner stomach:

Tummy tucks correct loose skin and out-of-shape muscles – During a tummy tuck, a plastic surgeon will re-shape muscles and tighten skin that has become loose a result of weight loss or pregnancy. Abdominoplasty is perfect for firming and shaping, but does not involve the removal of fat deposits.

Liposuction removes fat buildup in problem areas – The tummy, thighs, and hips are the most common places where fat can accumulate and be difficult to target with exercise. In these instances, liposuction is used to slim-down problems areas and remove fat deposits. Liposuction does not involve the tightening of skin or muscles.

Figuring out Which Procedure Will Work Best for You

The first step in getting cosmetic surgery that meets your goals is determining, with your plastic surgeon, what your specific problems are so the appropriate treatment can be recommended. If you’ve recently lost weight and are exercising properly, but find that your stomach still appears soft, a tummy tuck can help remove the extra skin created by a decrease in weight and give you a firmer, leaner look.

For patients who are struggling to lose weight in their midsection, even with a disciplined routine of physical activity and healthy eating, liposuction can remove fat in the abdomen.

At our Kirkland, WA plastic surgery office, we help patients see results with both tummy tucks and liposuction treatment. If your goal is a flatter stomach, we can help you find the treatment that works best for you. Contact our office for more information.

There has been a lot of buzz lately about mommy makeovers, and rightly so. This treatment – which combines multiple procedures – give moms a chance to get back, or even improve, the body they had before motherhood. Dr. Dry offers moms the opportunity to customize makeover packages that not only boost appearance, but confidence too.

The most popular cosmetic plastic surgeries for moms (and the ones that offer the greatest benefits) are usually:

These cosmetic makeover surgeries can be done all at once rather than separately and are usually grouped together to target problems areas that can be created after pregnancy, such as loose skin on the abdomen or sagging breasts. On their own, these surgeries can require 10 days of recovery time. But by combining different procedures into one treatment, you save recovery time, as well as money by avoiding separate appointment and surgical fees.

If just one or even all of these procedures sound they could help you, call Dr. Dry at his Kirkland office today. Together, the two of you can identify the areas you want to improve and what the best solutions are to give your body and your self-esteem a boost.

“Gummy bear” breast implants – also known as form-stable or cohesive breast implants – are now an FDA-approved option for women who are interested in breast reconstruction to restore a full shape after a mastectomy. This type of implant was given its name because the consistency of the silicone gel used in them has a similar feel to the famous candy.

Gummy bear implants offer a more natural look and feel, when compared to traditional silicone and saline implants. They are teardrop shaped to mimic the look of natural breasts, being fuller at the bottom and narrower at the top. The “soft solid” gel also feels more natural than saline implants, and is less prone to rippling. And because the gummy bear implant doesn’t rely on its shell to retain its shape (because the entire implant is made of the stable silicone), it will hold its shape much more reliably. There is also a reduced risk of capsular contracture than with silicone and saline implants, which also lessens the risk of needing corrective surgery.

Since gummy bear implants became FDA approved in February 2014, any licensed cosmetic surgeon is able to place them. But because these implants are so unique and specialized, many doctors would agree there is a learning curve to perfecting the surgical techniques required for this type of procedure. As one of the 50 original surgeons chosen in the country to take part in the initial studies and clinical trials for gummy bear implants, Dr. Dry is past this learning curve, and has been doing the surgery since 2003. Not only is he the best choice for cosmetic surgery, but he’s one of the premiere gummy bear breast implant surgeons in the entire country.

Gummy bear breast implants are a beautiful solution for creating a full and natural appearance. If you’ve been considering breast reconstruction surgery and would like to learn more about this exciting new option, call Dr. Dry today at his Kirkland, WA, office to schedule a visit!
